You’ll need to obtain a safety certificate if you’re transferring the vehicle registration to a new owner, changing your car’s registration to Queensland plates from another state, re-registering a car for which the registration has expired

The inspections for safety certificates cover all the basic safety necessities for a car, including, but not limited to Lights, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres, Steering & Suspension components, Vehicle body damage, Seatbelts and restraints, Fluid leaks, and any modifications to the vehicle

Certificates are valid for 2 months or 2,000km (whichever expires first) from the date of issue.
